Overview

American Express is seeking an Engineer I specializing in chat data analysis and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to join their team. This hybrid role focuses on advancing the company’s chatbot capabilities and enhancing user experience. As part of this team, you’ll help to deliver actionable insights from chat data, contribute to UI development, and support the chatbot’s performance improvements.

Job Responsibilities

1. Chat Data Analysis:
   • Use advanced data analysis techniques to uncover hidden use cases, identify anomalies, and derive actionable insights from chat data. This involves detailed exploration of data patterns that can improve chatbot functionality and accuracy.
2. Python Code Development:
   • Build and maintain robust Python code, ensuring that new features and functionalities are scalable and efficient. This requires familiarity with Python libraries, particularly those used for data processing and NLP (e.g., NLTK, spaCy).
3. NLP Pipeline Development:
   • Enhance NLP pipelines to improve the chatbot’s understanding and response accuracy. This role is essential for making the chatbot more intuitive and responsive to user needs.
4. Kibana Dashboard Creation:
   • Create visually engaging dashboards in Kibana for effective chat data visualization. This allows stakeholders to access and interpret valuable insights quickly.
5. Splashboard UI Development:
   • Actively contribute to the Splashboard UI development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create a seamless and user-friendly interface.
6. Prompt Tuning and Finalization:
   • Work on tuning and finalizing prompts for the chatbot’s 2.0 system, optimizing prompt effectiveness based on chat data insights. This aspect ensures that the chatbot engages users in a meaningful and effective way.

Required Qualifications

1. Education:
   • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Experience:
   • Proven experience in chat data analysis, NLP, and Python development.
   • Proficiency in Python, with a strong command of relevant libraries (e.g., NLTK, spaCy).
   • Experience with Kibana or similar data visualization tools.
3. UI Development Skills:
   • Understanding of front-end development principles and experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
4. Soft Skills:
   • Strong problem-solving abilities, thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
   • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Higher Education:
   • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
2. Machine Learning:
   • Experience with machine learning frameworks and techniques, including TensorFlow and PyTorch.
3. Chatbot Development:
   • Familiarity with chatbot development frameworks such as Dialogflow and Rasa.
4. Technical Knowledge:
   • Knowledge of Elasticsearch and related technologies.
   • Prior experience in a SaaS or tech startup environment is a plus.
