As part of our ongoing journey, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who excels in the challenges of running online services.
Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Azure Database for PostgreSQL team, you will be responsible for managing projects that enhance system availability, scalability, query performance, and optimizations in storage and networking. You will work closely with partner teams to create innovative first-party integrations for Open-Source Databases on Azure.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with project managers and technical leads to determine user requirements across various scenarios. Utilize feedback channels to gather insights, measure customer value, and analyze usage patterns to inform future designs or solutions.
- Architectural Leadership: Lead discussions on product architecture, create design proposals, and develop architecture and design documents. You will be responsible for testing hypotheses and overseeing the design decisions made by the team, ensuring alignment with security and compliance requirements.
- Code Quality and Mentorship: Promote best coding practices and lead by example. Mentor junior engineers to produce maintainable and extensible code, optimizing existing solutions for better performance and maintainability. Establish metrics to measure code quality and stability.
- System Monitoring and Accountability: Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor system performance for degradation or downtime. Work on-call as needed to address any issues that arise, ensuring high availability and reliability of services.
- Tool Development and Enhancement: Lead initiatives to enhance and contribute to software developer tools that aid in creating, debugging, and maintaining code across products. Identify opportunities to reuse existing tools and contribute to the development of new tools that optimize the development process.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 1 year of technical engineering experience in programming languages including but not limited to C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
Preferred:
- A Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least 1 year of experience.
- Experience in developing and shipping system-level features in an enterprise production backend server system.
- Familiarity with the internals of PostgreSQL or similar enterprise database management systems, particularly in migration and replication technologies.
